Let's Skate

14207 Colonial Drive
Winter Garden, Florida

Let's Skate is located in on West Colonial Drive in the Winter Garden Regional Shopping Center.

Come out for a night of family fun!!
The FOUNDATION will provide a pizza dinner to all members who
register early!

This will be our 7th annual skating party and we'd love to see you there!  Our families have really enjoyed this fun social night year after year.  So many kids and schools have skating parties and our members have told us this event
helps them to be confident that they can participate with their peers at these popular events.

Come out, have dinner and test it out with FOUNDATION families who may also be learning for the first time - or just practicing their skills. At the end of the evening you may leave with a child who can say, "I CAN SKATE!", has been enrolled with APD and has their Able Account set up. That's a BIG night!

Why is an APD sign up an important event for me and my family?
You may not need or qualify for services APD offers
individuals with Down syndrome in the state of Florida TODAY, but you want to be on their list if you / your loved one should ever need their assistance.  It is very easy to apply for services through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), but if you don't make the time to do it, you may not be able to access their services if there is ever an emergency or a need you have not anticipated.

Prior to the legislative changes in 2011, persons with Down syndrome were required to take an IQ test before they were eligible for services.  Thanks to the Florida Legislature, people with DS will automatically qualify to be on the list without the additional testing.

To help our members better understand what APD offers and facilitate the enrollment process, The FOUNDATION has invited APD to come to our summer summer skating event again this year.

Individuals over the age of 3 can register for APD services.  The FOUNDATION highly recommends you apply because even if you think you may never need the services you cannot predict what will happen in the future and the wait-list for services in Florida is VERY LONG.  The earlier you sign up your loved one the more likely they will be able to receive services when it comes time for them to need them.

Why open an ABLE account?  ABLE United allows qualified individuals with unique abilities to save up to $14,000 a year in an ABLE account without jeopardizing their eligibility for federally-funded means tested benefits, such as Social Security and Medicaid.  The funds in the account can be used for expenses that assist the beneficiary in increasing and/or maintaining his/her health, independence or quality of life.

Millions of individuals with unique abilities and their families are often regulated to a life of poverty as a result of not being allowed to build even the most modest levels of resources.  Individuals receiving supports through Social Security, Medicaid and other publicly-funded programs are often disqualified from those supports if they have more than $2000 worth of resources or assets.  Now, with the launch of nation wide ABLE programs, our members and their families will be able to take a step to better secure their financial futures and to help off set the often significant financial challenges that can arise.

Please fill out the appropriate form and bring it to the meeting.

This fun-filled night of skating and pizza is FREE for our members!

The APD works in partnership with local communities and private providers to assist people who have developmental disabilities and their families.
