A little time with our friends.....

It's Our Camping Jamboree!

At Disney's Fort Wilderness Campgrounds

Join The Foundation as we kick off Down Syndrome Awareness Month under the stars and around the campfire!

This is an event for all levels of campers - from the most experienced to the first-timer! When you camp Disney style you are sure to have a great time and not be TOO far from civilization--- or Mickey Mouse!   We want our members to have fun but we also want to give the experience of camping to our families because it is a GREAT way to be included in the community.

At Disney's Fort Wilderness there is something for just about everyone!  This event will give our members the chance to meet other families or just enjoy some time as a family in the great outdoors.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Check in is Friday, October 5th and check-out is Sunday, October 7.  The Foundation has secured volunteers to come help our families pitch tents and get set up when they arrive.  Once your site is ready you are free to enjoy the grounds and activities as a family and with your friends. Friday night and Saturday morning you will be 'own your own' for dinner and breakfast.

Saturday night The Foundation will host a BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, sides and drinks so you can eat with us, bring your own meal or go to one of the on-site* dining options (*at your own cost).   After dinner you can roast marshmallows at the bonfire and join in the sing along with Chip and Dale, go for a bike ride (bring yours or you can rent one) catch a movie under the stars or stroll down to the beach for the 9:45pm Electric Water Pageant.

Sunday morning The Foundation will provide a light breakfast but you are welcome to bring your own favorite morning treats as well.   After breakfast you can head off to go fishing,  horseback riding, play tennis, go swimming in one of the many pools or rent a kayak and cruise around the Disney waterways.  The recreation options are endless!    To see all of the options  Disney has to offer campers visit their website (some activities may require advanced reservations / activities requiring additional fees will be at your own expense).

Amenities vary, but each campsite is equipped with privacy enhancing landscaping, water, electrical hook ups, premium picnic table and a charcoal grill.  Air conditioned Comfort Stations throughout the campsite loops feature private toilets, showers, laundry facilieis and ice machines.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Each family will be responsible for their own tent, sleeping gear, personal items, snacks and spending money.  There is a General Store on site so if you forget anything you can almost be sure Disney will have what you need!   There are many FREE activities at Fort Wilderness but there are also many adventures you can participate in at your own cost.

The Foundation will provide dinner and a light breakfast but you will want to bring drinks and snacks.  We have put together a simple camping list that may help you get organized.

WHAT IF I DON'T CAMP?

We understand that camping isn't for everyone so if you would like to be a part of the   Camping Jamboree but don't quite have it in you to spend the night with little critters or things that go bump in the night - you can come join us for the bonfire and movie or volunteer to pick up the coffee on Sunday morning and have breakfast with us!  We want to INCLUDE everyone - so just let us know that you won't be popping a tent but would like to join us.  If that is the case, please note in your reservation that it is a non-camping request and we will send you all of the details you need to join us.

Applications are now OPEN!  Cost:  $25 for one night / $40 for two nights (*limited scholarships are available)
